Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (15 July 1606 – 4 October 1669): Van Rijn was a Dutch painter and etcher. Generally he was well thought-out as one of the greatest printmakers and painters in European art and the most important in Dutch history. His offerings to art came in a period of cultural achievement and great wealth, which historians call as the Dutch’s Golden Age. His self-portraits form an intimate and unique biography, in which the artist surveyed himself with the supreme honesty and without any pride. In his prints and paintings, he tried to exhibit knowledge of traditional iconography, which he shaped to fit the requirements of his own experience.
