Bara Katra

Bara Katra was made between 1644 and 1646 AD for the official residence of Mughal prince Shah Shuja. It is situated to the north bank of the river Buriganga and the south of Chowk Bazzar in the city of Dhaka. It is an architectural and historical monument. It is a grand building. This building was built by following the traditional model of the Central Asia's caravanserai. There are four sides with 22 living rooms in this katra. In north and south division two gates were made to provide right of entry. The word katra was taken from Arabic word Katara, means colonnaded building.
